The Children Are Watching Us marks the first full blossoming of one of the most fruitful collaborations in world cinema history. The brilliant pairing of legendary Italian actor and hitherto commercial director Vittorio De Sica with Cesare Zavattini, the talented screenwriter who was to become the chief theorist of the neorealist movement that flourished in Italy right after World War II, created a synergy of magnificent proportions, which allowed each man to transcend his own individual limitations. Begun here, with The Children Are Watching Us, in 1944, at the height of the war, it was a collaboration that would produce the incomparable Bicycle Thieves in 1948, as well as such cinema classics as Shoeshine (1946), Miracle in Milan (1951), and Umberto D. (1952). *********************************** FREAKYFLICKS ************************************ Freakyflicks is a free and open community dedicated to preserving and sharing cinematic art in the digital era. one of de sica'best, hard to find! thank you!
made in 1944, not 1955...
Thanks, gabril... thanks for pointing it out, it's a rather big mistake.
Goofed up on the torrent name, the year's correct in the description I guess.
The full DVD was available on piratebay some time back I think. I don't think it deserves a full DVD...so I decided to rip it and post it.
De Sica is one of those master filmmakers who tend to be disregarded in favour of more fashionable ones like Fellini, whose career is very patchy to say the least. Fellini made a lot of ordinary films. De Sica made nothing but masterpieces.

Reg "I don't think it deserves a full DVD..." I meant, it is a small film in monochrome with monaural audio, a good rip (this is a fair job) gives you good quality in a CD... no point downloading 4.36 GB when you can get reasonable quality in a rip in a fraction of the time.

Another fab download from zeinabqureshi!
Wasn't the film made in 1942 but not released until '44 because of those dirty Nazis and war problems?

Don't really know if it was made in 1942, but it was made *during* WWII. Thanks for the info, and thanks for downloading.

Zeinab, I always thought I was crazy about films but you are in a different league all together. The depth and breadth of movies you have seen is simply amazing. You would do great as a film critic.
P.S. I am posting this message on other movie boards because I do not know which one you would read.
